News from the Getaneh Family - ministering to the deaf in Zambia (June 2021)
Dear Praying friends,
I greet you all in the name of our Lord and Savior. As we battle with COVID, our trust is only in the Lord. Since our last update the surge for COVID-19 has intensified with the new variant. The death rate and the infection rates have increased while schools are opened and bars remained opened. The Deaf churches still meet under trees and at members houses. Bro. Aaron reported 13 deaf got saved in Mpika and soon he will baptize them.
I am so blessed to report that all our grade 7 students at the Faith Baptist community school has passed the national exam that allows them to pass to high school with colorful grades. Please pray for the young deaf students. They want share masks with their friends want to thank you for your faithfulness in supporting the school. Since the Corona started, we had to furnish a regular report on more masks, disinfectants at the premises and the running cost has skyrocketed.
It was a blessing to have Bro. Joseph and Bro. Todd preached at our Ethiopian Bible study fellowship. The group has grown in numbers and in the word of God. Please continue for this ministry. It was started when my wife conducted ladies Bible Study group and slowly grew to accommodate men and then my involvement to preach to this group. I enjoy their singing and food program with nice Ethiopian coffee.
I praise God for his goodness in using you to provide the funds for projects. We have fitted 8 new steel doors at the classrooms. It has changed the looks of the school and helped us to fulfill the requirement by the City Council. They also asked us to pave the driveway and to work on the drainages. Our place floods during the rainy season. Please pray for this important project that will cost $3500.
Please pray for the Deaf Bible Baptist Church of Chawama. Pastor Phillip showed me what they have done to their property. They dumped truckloads of garbage in their property demeaning the deaf. Even in the 21 st century, some people’s mindset never changed. They need $1800 to complete their church building and erect the wall fence.
It was a blessing to see Given, who is 18, got saved after Bro. Todd, a missionary friend preached at the Deaf Bible Baptist. He said, “God gave me a second chance”. He came to church since he was 5 years old and was away, immersed so much with the world. Now, he gave his life to Jesus. What a savior.
Thank you for being a part of this ministry. We appreciate your faithfulness in your prayers and support.
