Due to inclement weather, the 9 a.m. service for Sunday, Jan. 20 has been cancelled. We will have one morning service at 10:45 a.m. as road conditions improve.

Update from the F. Family

Spring 2021 Update

Here in Bulgaria, we just finished up our Easter season. the date is different because Eastern Orthodox countries follow the older Roman Julian calendar established by Julius Caesar (Western churches follow the Gregorian Calendar created by Pope Gregory X11 in 1582 and Judaism yet a different calendar). Palm Sunday and Easter are both very important holidays in Bulgaria; even non-religious people recognize and may celebrate these days. The Kid's Sunday School class made a video that we shared during this time. D. played a teacher that didn't know what Easter is really about, so one of the students explained the real meaning of Easter.

P. had the privilege of preaching on Palm Sunday this year. He continues to preach regularly, and on non-holiday Sundays has started a series on important Biblical doctrines called "Doctrines that Make a Difference." A. is still teaching music lessons to a few key people in the church and leading the music team.

COVID numbers continue to fluctuate in the country, and after a semi-lockdown period the kids are back to in-person school again. We continue to face challenges knowing how and when to restart some of our ministries. Please especially pray for wisdom about the new church plant. At this point, it looks like we will not restart until the Fall. People are just starting to return to our main church in larger numbers.

There have been a few administrative/structural changes in our part of the ABWE world. Our old region of Central Eastern Europe & the Mediterranean (CEEEMed) has been reorganized into two new regions. We are now a part of the Eastern Europe & Central Asia (EECA) region. While we are sad that K.F. will no longer be our Regional Director, we are excited about the future and we know our new director and his wife quite well.

Most of us have become very familiar with Zoom lately; maybe a little too familiar! But we are thankful for technology like Zoom, Facetime, Marco Polo, and Facebook to be able to connect with colleagues, friends and family. Lately, team meetings regional ABEWE meetings, and even our language lessons have been on Zoom. In March we enjoyed a world-wide Zoom call hosted by a church's mission team that focused on the doctrine of Bibliology. In April, we had a Zoom meeting with a high school AWANA group at the church, and A. met by Zoom with one of their ladies mission groups. This is a great way for our family to connect with our churches and meet new people. If you would like to set up something with us for a Sunday School class, small group , home group, Bible study, etc. please let us know. The time difference can be tricky; however, we are willing to be a little creative to make things work if we need to.

One of the goals of our team has been to translate materials into Bulgarian to help and strengthen Bulgarian churches. Our teammates started work on ABWE's "Good Soil" material even before we arrived and have basically completed that project. We have already used the materials here at our church plant group. Last year, our team also started working on our first book project of Expositional Preaching, they are now printed and are ready to distribute! We are excited about finishing this book and please pray with us as we consider future projects. If you are interested in helping with translation please contact us for more information.

A couple of weeks ago, our children were riding bikes with their neighborhood friend Tedi. The chain slipped off D.'s bike and it sent him flying. At first we thought he just sprained his wrist, but a trip to the ER showed a hairline fracture. For about a month, he is sporting a cast. Thankfully, he isn't in pain and it was his left hand. He is even still helping out with music at church one-handed on his own initiative. Please pray for a speedy recovery.

H. loves her animals. They bring her (and Mom) a lot of joy. H. is still singing with the music team, and many Sundays helps with the smaller kids Sunday School. Next school year, we are going to be making some big changes with both kids' schooling. Please pray with us for wisdom as we make the changes and that they will be the best for the kids.
