Dear friends and family,
Things have happened so quickly that it's been hard to get out an update. But I'm coming to you here from my comfy West Virginia apartment to fill you in on all that's happened in the past month...
In case you missed it... I PASSED MY PORTUGUESE EVALUATION!!!
For all of you praying for my Portuguese evaluation, thank you! It went so smoothly and God allowed me to pass without any problems. He's so good! I couldn't have asked for it to go any better.
Shortly after the test I got the ok from my leadership to buy my return ticket to the US, and I bought my ticket for October 1st to give a bit of time to say goodbye to my amazing Brazilian friends I'd made during the past 9 months.
My last 2 weeks in Brazil were a flurry of last meals, final get-togethers, and goodbyes. My friends made me feel so honored and overwhelmed with gratitude. It's never fun saying "goodbye," but I've learned that God seems to allow the goodbyes in order to open up opportunities for us to embrace new things, friends, and experiences. Plus, "goodbye" for the Christian, is never really permanent. It's more like a "see ya later" because no matter what happens we know we will see each other again in Heaven.

Quick Thoughts from ScriptureRecently I have been studying the life of Moses for a Bible study I will be doing in a few weeks. As I was studying, I came to God's call on Moses' life. God was asking Moses to do something big, lead the people of God out of slavery, and Moses was having serious doubts. "Who am I?" He said, forgetting he was talking to the Great I Am. Toward the end of this dialog God reassured Moses:
"'The elders of Israel will listen to you. Then you and the elders are to go to the king of Egypt and say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Let us take a three-day journey into the wilderness to offer sacrifices to the Lord our God.’ But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless a mighty hand compels him. So I will stretch out my hand and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders that I will perform among them. After that, he will let you go."
God knew that this rescue plan for His people would never work if it depended on Moses to do the work. A stubborn Pharaoh's mind would have to be changed. Something Moses could not do. God said Pharaoh's mind would only be changed if "a mighty hand compels him". Then God said, "I will stretch out my hand!
I think of all the hard, seemingly impossible tasks that God gives us. And then I read these verses and I think, "Bring it on!" When God's hand is at work, no one can stop Him.
I just want to praise Him for all His goodness to me recently! During the language learning process I often struggled to stay focused, encouraged, and confident that God would help me learn the language, but He did! And He did it during the time of uncertainty with Covid-19! I praise Him for this incredible victory, and I look forward to seeing His mighty hand at work in the next phase of ministry!
Right after my language evaluation, I was quite tired of studying so when some of my friends invited me to a hot spring area, I couldn't resist. What a blessing it was to recharge the batteries a little after 9 months of language study!
Back in the USA!
My trip to the US went extremely well. The overnight flight was quite empty which allowed me to stretch out a bit. I made it to West Virginia October 2nd and will be in the US until the end of December. I'm so excited to share with you all God's done and what the next step in ministry will look like.
- Safety in travels, though I plan to spend almost all my time in WV, I plan to make at least one or two trips out of state.
- As I prepare to share in Churches, wisdom in preparing messages.
- For me to grow closer to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
- Future ministry: my coworkers, unity as a team, closeness to and dependence on God.
Thank you for your many prayers! I can see God going before me, preparing the way.
- Time with my family! They came to WV to visit me and our church here. I am so excited to see them again!
- Safe travels, church apartments to stay in, a vehicle for my time back, food in the fridge when I got here, and so so much more!
If you'd like to connect with me during my time in Huntington feel free to message me. I don't have a phone number, but you can shoot me a message on Facebook Messenger or Instagram. Just keep in mind I'm in quarantine until October 19th so if we meet up it would have to be sometime after the 19th.
Love you all! If I can be praying for you, shoot me a message and I'll be praying for you as well.
